MOSHI TOWN

Moshi is a town situated in the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. 

 

The population is about 150.000 people giving home also to the Chagga and Maasai tribes. The climate is just perfect as temperatures various between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius most part of the year.

 

On daily basis, depending on the weather you will be able to spot amazing views of Kili from different parts of the town.

 

Moshi has to offer a range of restaurants, newly opened cinema, swimming pool, bars, colorful markets and shops. Night life exists here also, and you could party all night long.

 

It’s a very safe town, and considered the cleanest town in East Africa. The people are nice and friendly, they know that you are here to help so they respect you for that.

 

 

Most of the times you will be the attraction being called Mzungu, which means “

 

person of foreign descent”. Of course, you will not be the only white person as Moshi is full of volunteers. It’s also the closest town to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and to do Safari so many of the tourists stay here before and after their trips. 

 

The currency is Tanzanian Schillings (Tsh).

 

1euro is approx 2.200 Tsh and 1US dollar approx 1.500 Tsh.

 

Life is very cheap here, e.g. a taxi ride to the city center will cost you approx 2.000Tsh.

 

A meal in the best restaurant in town will not cost you more than 10.000Tsh.

 

While volunteering in Born to Learn situated in Newland you can grab a lunch for only 500Tsh! A plate full of rice and beans!

 

Moshi also offers nature wonders. You could go for a one day hike to amazing waterfalls, hot springs, lakes etc..

 

There are several ATM machines, post office, hospital, bus station, internet cafes and all the facilities a person might need. 

 

If you are looking for volunteering, doing a Safari, climbing the roof of Africa or diving in the amazing coral reefs of Zanzibar, then Moshi is your place!!
